Self Portrait at Home

24”x36”. Oil on Panel. 2020.

This is a self portrait that was started in March 2020. When I started this painting there was so much fear and panic in the world. Externally, everything was unsure, and that is also how I felt internally. Wanting to hold onto the little control I had in my life, I started painting this piece in a very refined way, trying to perfectly capture each detail. As I continued working on it in the upcoming months, my mindset began to change and my focus turned towards the big picture. Both, in life and in this painting. I was on a journey of pursuing joy and began adding elements to the painting that represent things that are dear to my heart. I added a necklace my grandmother gave me, my favorite shade of blue, and the plants growing in my room.
